However, it failed to create ripples because the then browsers could not offer support to the state of the art attributes of PNG so web designers and creators had to use it stingily. One of the primary hindrances that marred the features of PNG was with Microsoft's Internet Explorer which was the most well known and widely used browsers of that period; IE had limited provision for PNG support which meant that the format could only be incorporated in the most restricted way. But, matters metamorphosed after the availability of IE7; this fresh browser from Microsoft has proved immensely useful in increasing increasing the usability of PNGs. So here is why at three reasons why PNG is by far the best image formats to be introduced so far: You can get see through images or a feature called alpha transparency: When you compare PNG with GIF, you will see that a very distinct advantage with PNG is that you you will be restricted to saving a particular color transparently through the use of GIF which means that the color can be used whether opaque or transparent with nothing in betweenbut when you use PNG, you get a serious advantage; because the format supports semi transparent pixels. With this attribute, you can save a PNG picture with a soft drop shadow and then fuse it with a background that suits your taste. You can also use the image as a gradient background or water mark. The file type gives you the option to use the smooth fading of colors from entirely opaque to absolutely transparent, so that you can see the webpage underneath They look fabulous: It is a well known fact that PNG images give you extreme flexibility also; there are numerous other benefits to including this format. For example, if you choose a JPG image, you lose some of the information on the original file each time the file is saved, so in time, you will notice a distinct downgrade in the appearance of the pictures. Even if, this problem has been solved in in the file type and you will be able to store the files without losing any information, GIF has a highly restrictive 256 color palette, which renders it quite useless if you are going to store a snap shot. On the other hand, if PNG is incorporated, you will get the perfect benefits of the two file types; you will have access to an extensive color display like the one used in JPEG format and it also supports managed color palette like GIF files. Another advantage is that the compression of the file is without loss so the image stays as it is regardless of how many time you save it. PNG is self optimizing: A major concern that web designers face very often is the issue where the brightness and the contrast ratio of the screen has to be changed to see the the display properly; this happens due to the difference in the Gamma setting used for the different monitors. Gamma is a technology that helps to distribute the brightness across the screen. However, various operating systems use a variety of Gamma settings. Therefore, multimedia that is color corrected specifically for Windows will seem wrong when seen on Mac. Here again, in this case the versatile PNG format comes to the rescue, in PNG, you can save the files with an inherent Gamma correction feature so regardless of the operating system; the Gamma settings will be realigned to show a file with the perfect brightness and contrast. ![]()
